Long ago, there was a bachelor who was over 30 years old and not married yet, he was diligent and capable, working hard in the field every day.
One day, he found a big escargot when he was going to work. He was glad and brought it home, feeding it in his own water tank. Three years later, one day, when he was back from field, he found his table was full loaded hot meal. He was so hungry and began to eat them regardless of how and why. He was confused about who would did this while eating. In following continuous days, there were same meal for hime when he back from working. He thought it must be his neighbour Aunt Li, but she said that: no, I heared cooking noise in you kitchen and I thought you were back for meal ahead of time. The bachelor felt very strange and he decided to make this clear.
On that day, he went to work as usual. But later for a while, he came back and hid himeself out of the door to look through. At almost noon, the cover of the water tank was open slowly and a beatiful girl walked out to cook, after her finished the meal, she returned into the water tank. And everything was same in following days.
The bachelor thought, why this beautiful and virtuous girl cook for him everyday. In the noon of another day, when the girl was cooking, he came in abruptly, clasped her and locked her in a room. Then, he went to the water tank and found the escargot was gone only left the vacant shell floated oevr the water, the girl must be changed from this escargot. He got an clever idear, hiding the vacant shell in the backyard and went into the room to make everything clean. When he opened the door, the girl rushed to the water tank, after she found her vacant shell was gone she began to cry. She told the bachelor she was an escargot spirit, she was coming for repaying an obligation because he saved her life in preexistence and raised her three years in this life.
The bachelor was very moved and they were married. After marriaging, they had a son and a daughter. It was said that, this couple lived very happily.
